LESSONS LEARNED

Today’s lesson asks whether the crucifixion of Jesus is only a past event we remember, or the most pivotal event in history that has personally changed our lives through grateful participation in Christ.

WATCH OUTS

  1. Do not let familiar words like cup, bread, communion, or Lord’s Supper become routine when Paul is pointing to the blood and body of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16).
  2. Do not reduce the crucifixion to religious history; the cross is the most pivotal event in human history because it made redemption possible (1 Peter 1:18-19; Hebrews 9:12).
  3. Do not participate in communion casually while your heart is cold toward the Father who sent the Son, the Son who died, and the Spirit who applies cleansing to us (1 John 1:7)

SUCCESSES / SPIRITUAL GROWTH

  1. Let communion awaken gratitude for the blood of Jesus, shed so sinners could be pardoned, cleansed, redeemed, and brought near to God (1 Corinthians 10:16; Hebrews 9:14).
  2. Receive the bread and cup as tangible acts of faith that point your whole person back to the finished saving work of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:4-11).
  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to deepen your spiritual union with the risen and reigning Jesus as you remember His atoning death (Hebrews 1:3; Romans 6:5).

LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS

  1. Faithful leaders help God’s people connect historical truth with present obedience so the cross is not treated as distant information (1 Corinthians 10:16).
  2. Wise spiritual leadership teaches communion with reverence, clarity, and gratitude, avoiding both empty ritual and doctrinal confusion (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).
  3. Leaders should make space for reflection when the church holds the cup and bread, because hurried sacred moments can train shallow hearts (Psalm 46:10).

EKKLESIA PERSPECTIVE

  1. The Ekklesia is a people purchased by the blood of Jesus, not a voluntary association gathered around shared religious interests (Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 10:16).
  2. Communion declares that the Church’s center is the crucified and risen Christ, not culture, personality, tradition, preference, or political identity (1 Corinthians 10:16-17).
  3. Every local congregation should remember that the one loaf points beyond one room to the worldwide body of Christ under one Lord (1 Corinthians 12:12-13).
