LESSONS LEARNED

Friday, September 18, 2026 — Spirit Distributed Gifts? (1 Corinthians 12:1–11). The Holy Spirit entrusts different gifts to believers so that, under Jesus’ leadership, they serve God’s purposes for the common good. How is someone else benefiting from what God has entrusted to you?

WATCH OUTS

  1. Do not measure your worth by someone else’s gifts; the Spirit distributes gifts according to His will, and believers must think of themselves soberly (1 Corinthians 12:11; Romans 12:3–6).
  2. Do not assume that former religious enthusiasm was reliable guidance; Paul recalls the Corinthians’ idolatry and directs them toward allegiance to Jesus (1 Corinthians 12:1–3; 1 Thessalonians 1:9).
  3. Do not turn spiritual gifts into personal status; their purpose is the common good and the service of others (1 Corinthians 12:7; 1 Peter 4:10).

SUCCESSES / SPIRITUAL GROWTH

  1. Give thanks for God’s personal care in your creation, and receive your abilities with humility rather than self-congratulation (Psalm 139:13–16; 1 Corinthians 4:7).
  2. Rest your identity in belonging to God’s family through faith in Jesus, not in your usefulness or visibility (John 1:12–13; Romans 8:14–17).
  3. Learn what Scripture says about spiritual gifts, then practice faithful service with what God has entrusted to you (1 Corinthians 12:1, 4–11; 1 Peter 4:10–11).

LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS

  1. Teach the Spirit’s gifts clearly so the congregation can serve with understanding rather than remain uninformed (1 Corinthians 12:1; Ephesians 4:11–13).
  2. Make room for different contributions without pretending leaders control the Spirit’s distribution (1 Corinthians 12:4–6, 11; Romans 12:6–8).
  3. Equip believers for service rather than gathering all ministry around a few visible people (Ephesians 4:11–12; 1 Peter 4:10).

EKKLESIA PERSPECTIVE

  1. The Church is a family received through Christ; ethnicity, social standing, and generation must not become barriers to belonging (Galatians 3:26–28; Ephesians 2:19).
  2. Different gifts need not divide the Church: the same Spirit, Lord, and God are at work among His people (1 Corinthians 12:4–6; Ephesians 4:4–6).
  3. Every believer’s contribution should be directed toward the common good, so the whole body grows through mutual service (1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:16).
