LESSONS LEARNED
Today’s lesson asks whether the Holy Spirit is teaching us to think with the mind of Christ about marriage, intimacy, selflessness, and prayer in a world often confused about God’s design.
WATCH OUTS
- Do not let cultural confusion shape your understanding of marriage more than the Holy Spirit and God’s Word shape it (1 Corinthians 2:12-16; 1 Corinthians 7:3-5).
- Do not treat marital intimacy as a place for selfish demands, pride, lust, or self-centeredness (1 Corinthians 7:3-5; Philippians 2:3-4).
- Do not wound your spouse’s heart through pressure, neglect, harshness, indifference, or failure to serve tenderly (Ephesians 5:25-29; Colossians 3:19).
SUCCESSES / SPIRITUAL GROWTH
- Invite the Holy Spirit to teach you God’s truth about marriage, purity, love, and self-control (John 16:13; Galatians 5:22-23).
- Fulfill marital duty as selfless service, seeking the good of your spouse before your own desires (1 Corinthians 7:3-4; Ephesians 5:21).
- Protect your spouse’s heart from wounds, including wounds that could come through your own attitudes, words, or expectations (Proverbs 4:23; 1 Peter 3:7).
LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS
- Godly leadership in marriage begins with humble service, not control, entitlement, or self-protection (Mark 10:42-45; Philippians 2:5-8).
- A husband or wife who follows the Spirit learns to notice needs and serve them before resentment or distance grows (Romans 12:10; Galatians 6:2).
- Wise spiritual leadership treats difficult marriage topics with clarity, tenderness, and reverence rather than embarrassment or avoidance (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Acts 20:27).
EKKLESIA PERSPECTIVE
- The Church should help believers think wisely, truthfully, and purely about marriage when public opinion is confused or opposed to God’s ways (Romans 12:2; 1 Corinthians 2:16).
- Christian community should teach marriage as mutual service and holy unity, not as a private arena detached from discipleship (Ephesians 5:21-33; Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Mature believers can help younger generations learn godly wisdom about marriage before the culture teaches them a distorted version of intimacy (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Titus 2:2-8).
